Shurooq AlBanna currently works as a Project Manager at the Dubai Health Authority, Investment & PPP Department. She is PMP-certified offering a proven record of success throughout 14 years of experience in managing local and international projects / campaigns / initiatives that have benefited millions of individuals worldwide within the humanitarian / health sector. Over the past decade, she has travelled extensively to remote areas in Africa and Asia to ensure program implementation within the field of prevention of blindness.
Prior to her humanitarian experience, Shurooq worked as a cytogeneticist for the Dubai Health Authority, shifting her career focus from science to humanitarian, whilst completing her UOWD Master of Strategic Marketing.
Shurooq understands the power of words to influence change. Since 2014, she has written a regular column for Sail e-magazine entitled ‘A Moment of Contemplation’, sharing her unique insights on her journey of self-discovery. In 2013, she became the first Arab woman in the 90-year history of Toastmasters International to place in the top 3 positions in the World Championships, competing against people from all over the world.
In 2016, her vast contribution to society saw her placed second in the Most Distinguished Female Employee category of the highly competitive Dubai Government Excellence Program. Shurooq is the recipient of the Alumni Social Impact Award for year 2016 from the University Of Wollongong Dubai based on her humanitarian service to the local and international communities. She is also a graduate of the University of London in Genetics and Forensic Sciences.
In her free time, Shurooq mentors students, reads, meditates and practices gratefulness.
